In Times of Need- By Laurence Torr
In the Old Testament, there was a widow who faced a severe financial situation. She was in such financial need that the creditors were after her and wanted to take her son as a slave. The prophet Elisha showed up at her house with instructions from God for her situation and it had to do with the little of her resources that she had. All she had was one jar of oil. With one jar, and obediently gathering jars from her neighbors at the request of Elisha, she backed up her faith with actions and obedience. She followed a plan. When her miracle occurred, she not only had enough oil to fill each jar and pay off her debts, but she was able to sell the oil and live off the rest.
2 Kings 4:1-7 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead, and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
2Kings 4:2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.
2Kings 4:3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbor’s, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
2Kings 4:4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
2Kings 4:5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
2Kings 4:6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
2Kings 4:7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
You may feel like the widow with one jar of oil, and feel like digging your situation into the ground. but be encouraged to develop a vision and plan to work with God. Work with what you have now as best as you can and as faithful as you can. By staying faithful and consistence. God will entrust you with more. if you have a need sow a seed and watch how God multiplies your seed sown with Believing.
There is also another wonderful record in 1Kings 17. where there was a great need not only for the prophet Elijah as there was a famine in the land but for a certain widow woman and her son. The widow woman and her son need got met but not before she gave from the little she had.
1Kings 17:8(KJV) 8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.
Have a great day do not worry, God has a supply for what you need, go to God, Thank Him that He knows your need and how to met that need, to receive anything from God requires us to have faith ( believing) which means no doubts no worrying, no fear. We have to have a mind and heart of believing, a full confidence that God will do for you what no one can do for you.
Your circumstances may seem impossible you may see no way out. but God is the God of the impossible, what is impossible to you, is absolutely possible with God, and God can make way for you where there seems no way. In the meantime stay thankful for what you have right now this will help keep your focus and expecting from God.
Our help comes from God, He has an abundant supply, and He is willing to help anyone that will believe Him and trust Him, follow out what God puts in your heart to do, We read when the woman was obedient to Elijah to make him a cake first, from the little she had, when she done what she was encouraged to do, God met her need. when the widow woman, done what the man of God said to go and collect all the jars she could God met the need and not only did he meet the need he gave an abundance to last them years. Our God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you ask or think.
Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
If you are willing to do what God shows you to do then God will truly bless your heart.
Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
Like the two women, they were obedient to follow what the men of God showed them to do and they were also willing. that is all Good needs from you, so He can be released to go to work for you.
Have a great day, stay expecting God will come through.
much love
