Thoughts For Today. Get Rid Of Mental Assent
An Enemy of Faith is Mental Assent.
Salvation = We are saved by grace (God’s favour) through faith not of works
Service/Rewards = Faith with out works is dead, we show our faith by our works = actions.
Simple but powerful and always good to remember.
Ephesians 2:8 – 9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
God is not only interested in us hearing His word’s He is equally interested in us doing what we hear,this verse here separates mental assent from faith. if anyone thinks just listening to the word will make a difference is deceiving themselves
Here is a great example of one that does and doesn’t do the word.
Matthew 21:28 -31. 28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
We can see the second son mentally assented to what the Father asked but never took any action to do it.
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
James 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
James 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
The blessing’s of God manifest in our lives when we take action and apply what we know and understand to do, also when we obey the voice of God and are led by the spirit of God.
We see from the example in the Book of Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy 28:1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
So if we hearken diligently unto the voice God for the purpose of doing, when we do what God is showing Us, then we will manifest the blessing’s of God in our lives.
Deuteronomy 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
all the blessing you can read in the next 12 verses.These blessing are a result of being doers of the word and not hearers only.
If we believe then we prove to ourselves and others by doing what we say we believe. Lets check ourselves we can ask ourselves am I truly believing what i have heard and learnt or am I just bumping my Gums
Some things i will list that God wants us to do, Today.
1 Love God with all your heart, 2 Love others as yourself, 3 Preach The Word 4 Heal the sick and cast out devils, 5 raise the dead and cleanse the leper 6 Speak in Tongues much 7 Fellowship with other doers of the Word 8 Being faithful, 9 Honoring God with your finances 10 Praying for the Labourer’s 11 being forgiving 12 Walking in love, 13 Building others up. 14 Not back Biting,15 trusting God above all 16 Being led by the spirit of God and many more things I could list,
These are wonderful bench marks for our walk and living daily before God.
